The word Savasana actually means corpse pose. Far from being morbid, it expresses two truths.

One truth is that we need to become an introvert for 20 minutes every day and rest. And during that time we become, in a way, dead to the outer world, and rest in our own silence and goodness.

The second truth is that death is the most profound fact of our existence. It is said that Savasana prepares us for the final letting go that we all must face.

Judith Hanson Lasater
Ph.D., Physical Therapist

Judith Hanson Lasater has been practicing yoga since 1970, teaching yoga since 1971, and helping to train teachers since 1974.

She trains students and teachers throughout the United States as well as abroad, is one of the co-founders of Yoga Journal magazine, and is president emeritus of the California Yoga Teachers Association.

Judith has written eight books on yoga.
